If you follow me on Instagram, you pretty much know that I’m obsessed with Rent the Runway. I just love being able to try out new styles without committing to the price tag. And since they have so many options – from casual tops and shorts to cocktail dresses and formal gowns – my monthly subscription lets me fill in my wardrobe needs no matter what I have on my calendar.
And for all my Dallas friends… I just learned that Rent the Runway is hosting a Sample Sale in Dallas in June, and you have to check it out! Last year, I left the Sample Sale with 8 new-to-me dresses, but they also have designer handbags and accessories at up to 90% off retail.
Here’s what you need to know:
When? June 3rd-26th. Mon-Sat: 11AM-7PM, Sun: 12PM-6PM
Where? The West Village, 3699 McKinney Avenue, Suite 103B, Dallas, TX 75204
And… if you find something you love, mention KIMBERLY RHODES at checkout and get 15% off your entire purchase!
I’ve been to the Rent the Runway Sample Sale twice now, and they were two very different experiences. Here are some tips to make it a positive one:
1. Go to the Rent the Runway Sample Sale early.
The first time I went to the sample sale, I just happened to be in the area and walked by and saw that something was happening. It was not an intentional shopping trip at all. It was the last day or two of the sale, and needless to say, things were picked through. I did a quick sweep of the mostly empty racks and left empty handed.
Last year, I was lucky enough to get in an hour before the sample sale opened because of my RTR Ambassador status. I truly didn’t realize that this early entry was a big deal until I showed up and there was a line of people waiting outside the door to get in! The racks were completely filled and there were dresses, gowns, tops, pants, handbags and accessories everywhere!
I hear that they refill the racks with additional items throughout the month, but from my two experiences, I’d suggest going earlier in the month for the best selections and best chances of seeing something you love in your size. And speaking of…
2. Know your sizes.
Unlike a traditional clothing store where the same dress hangs next to its dress twin in a different size, the Rent the Runway sample sale is divided around the room by size. So all the size 4 dresses are together, all the size 6 dresses are together, etc. Making a beeline to your size will be the most efficient way to shop.
I’m not sure if this will be the case again this year, but in previous years there has not been a dressing room. With Rent the Runway, I pretty much have to know my sizes anyway, so not being able to try something on wasn’t a big deal. But, if you’re in between sizes or wear different sizes based on the cut of something, you might limit your purchases to things you are confident will fit. All sales are final, so you do have to choose a bit carefully.
3. Wear workout clothes.
Last year, I did see some ladies trying on clothes over their leggings and sports bras, which I thought was pretty brilliant. Even if you don’t plan to do that, wearing comfortable clothes while shopping is never a bad idea. Snagging that perfect Monique Lhuillier gown at a huge discount can certainly be a workout!
